2009 IAS Conference: Finding the frontier for internal audit - 13 October 2009

Announcement

2009 IAS Conference

Finding the frontier for internal audit

Brussels, 13 October 2009, 9:30 – 17:00

Charlemagne building
rue de la Loi 170
1040 – Brussels, Belgium

The annual conference of the Internal Audit Service of the European Commission offers an opportunity to reflect on the internal audit work and its border disciplines. Some frontiers may seem natural and insurmountable; others may appear to be more "man-made" and therefore more floating, as subject to a possible future redefinition of the audit universe. Finally, there may be borders internal auditors yet have to reach out to, as future challenges may necessitate adapted audit approaches.

The 2009 IAS Conference will offer an opportunity to discuss these questions in an open manner in order to create a better understanding - both by auditors and by non-auditors - of the nature of internal auditing.

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Internal auditing and its border disciplines
  • Relationship between internal auditors and other internal assurance providers (CFO, compliance officer, inspectors, security, quality management etc.)
  • How can internal audit help preventing fraud?
  • How does internal audit feed into fraud investigations?
  • Evaluation versus internal auditing
  • How can or should internal auditors be involved in management processes, e.g. risk management ?
  • New frontiers for internal auditing

It is established practice that the audience will have the opportunity to participate actively in the discussion, including through voting sessions.
