Helena Sundén, Lawyer and Secretary-General of the Swedish Anti-Corruption Institute, will speak at the European Confederation of Institutes of Internal Auditing (ECIIA) Conference 2016. The Conference will take place at the Stockholm Waterfront Congress Centre on October 6-7. The ECIIA spoke with Sundén about the upcoming conference.
You have an extensive experience of the prevention, detection and investigation of fraud and corruption within private and public organizations, both in Sweden and internationally. Have you seen any significant changes or trends related to fraud and corruption during the last years?
What we see is that new ways of committing fraud and corruption constantly appear. New challenges in our societies open up for new ways of getting money out of the systems. As long as there are people involved the risk of fraud and corruption will always be a fact that we cannot look away from and the best way to combat all types of financial crimes is by motivating the most important players of the control system, the employees, to be alert at all times.
What will you speak about during your session?
I will speak on the topic of anti-corruption and all the challenges we see that different organizations are facing, both in relation to legal requirements as well as business sector demands and ethical aspects. I will talk about new areas of corruption risk based on the input we get from businesses and public organizations and what to be aware of and when it’s time to be “a little bit more skeptical”.
