CIA Exam: why and how it's changing

10-10-2017

In early 2017, The IIA conducted a global job analysis study to collect input regarding the proposed CIA exam syllabi revisions and the knowledge, skills, and abilities most relevant to today’s internal audit professionals. With support of IIA members, the study was made available in 11 languages and garnered more than 3,000 responses. Survey results confirmed the need to update the current three-part CIA exam and drove the content, design, and structure of the next version of the exam.

IIA Global is currently developing the updated CIA exams based on the revised syllabi, with an expected release in January 2019 in English only. The revised CIA exams in non-English languages are expected to be released beginning April 2019, and completed no later than March 2020. CIA candidates will be able to sit for the current exams until the revised exams are available in respective languages.

The syllabi revisions will affect new and in-process candidates around the world. In order to prepare CIA exam candidates for this change, IIA Global developed a dedicated CIA Exam Syllabi Revisions web page. The web page includes a CIA exam revisions handbook with a comparison of the existing exam syllabi and the updated syllabi, noteworthy elements, and a reference list for exam preparation. The FAQs document contains valuable information as well, and provides candidates with answers to anticipated questions.
