The Role of Internal Audit in Integrated Reporting

16-10-2018

The Internal Audit Foundation has just released The Role of Internal Audit in Integrated Reporting: A South African Case Study. The case study highlights the importance of internal audit’s ability to maintain a dual focus on both the integrated report as well as the integrated reporting process as a whole.

The case study includes insights from stakeholders on what they view as internal audit’s role in integrated reporting and what they view as current gaps. The case study also delves into key skills and attributes necessary for internal auditors to fulfill their role, including:
• Independence and objectivity
• Business acumen
• Specialist skills
• Integrated thinking
• Materiality

As this case study attests, as the role of internal audit continues to extend beyond the realm of financial reporting across the globe, it is critical for practitioners to ensure their thinking and their practice evolve simultaneously towards a more integrated approach.

This case study, powered by the Internal Audit Foundation and sponsored by The Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa, is available for free download.
