Results of the first EU mini benchmark on IA strategy and KPIs
More than 300 Chief Audit Executives across Europe, including 74 from the Netherlands, participated in the first EU mini benchmark on internal audit strategy and KPIs. The results offer insight into how internal audit functions define strategy and measure performance.
The results of the first EU mini benchmark survey on internal audit strategy and KPIs are now available. The short survey explored how internal audit functions across Europe structure their strategy and which performance indicators are used to monitor effectiveness.
The findings show that many internal audit functions already have a solid foundation in place. Seventy four percent of respondents report having an internal audit strategy, while 75 percent have defined KPIs to track performance.
At the same time, the results indicate there is still room for further development. The elements included in internal audit strategies vary widely between organisations, and not all outcome areas are currently addressed in a consistent way. The benchmark therefore offers several suggestions for strengthening both strategic analysis and the selection of relevant KPIs.
Participation in this first European mini benchmark was strong. More than 300 CAEs took part in the survey, including 74 from the Netherlands.
Following this level of engagement, the initiative will continue. The next EU mini benchmark will take place in May and will focus on collaboration between internal audit and the second line, a topic that participants identified as the most relevant for a future survey.
