On January 1, 2009, the Institute of Internal Auditors (the IIA) released its revised International Professional Practices Framework.

Five new Standards have been added
‘Should’ has been replaced with ‘must’ throughout most of the Standards
Additional requirements have been added to existing Standards
Interpretations have been added which incorporate components which were previously part of the Practice Advisories

All Internal Audit (IA) functions should be discussing these changes as well as the incremental actions required to be taken with their management and audit committees.
