The IIA will recognize current NBA Qualification holders (Register Accountant and Accountant-Administratieconsulent) as qualified NBA members as long as they are NBA Qualification holders at the Effective Date. Former NBA certification holders and students are not qualified as NBA members. IIA NL and NBA will be responsible for the attestation of qualified NBA members.
NBA members are deemed to have met the IIA’s education requirements and do not have to provide education documentation.
NBA members are deemed to have met the IIA’s professional experience requirements and do not have to provide professional experience documentation.
Candidates must exhibit high moral and professional character and must submit a Character Reference Form signed by a CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CFSA, CRMA, or the candidate's supervisor.
Proof of Identification
Candidates must provide a government-issued photo identification in the form of a copy of the candidate’s official passport, government-issued photo ID, or national identity card. These must indicate current status; expired documents will not be accepted. All documents must be scanned and uploaded through the Document Upload Portal in a manner that ensures the photo is clearly legible.
The CIA Challenge Exam will be offered only one time to NBA members. Candidates must apply, register, schedule, and sit for the exam by 30 September 2018.
CIA Challenge Exam candidates agree to accept the conditions of the program. These include eligibility requirements, exam confidentiality, Code of Ethics
, Continuing Professional Education (CPE) / Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
, and any other conditions enacted by the IIA’s Professional Certification Board (PCB). The IIA requires candidates to complete the CIA Challenge Exam certification process by 30 September 2018. If a candidate does not complete the certification process by the deadline, all fees will be forfeited.
During the application process, certification and qualification candidates are required to submit the application form and required documentation via the Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) and the Document Upload Portal. All required forms are located in CCMS.

NBA: "De opleiding tot CIA wordt gezien als een schriftelijke training die aantoonbaar wordt verricht als deze wordt afgerond door een examen. Als de accountant het examen met goed gevolg aflegt, is sprake van een gestructureerde PE-activiteit en kan de accountant de tijd die is besteed aan de voorbereiding van het examen verantwoorden als gestructureerde cursusactiviteit. De examentijd zelf mag hierin formeel niet worden meegenomen, omdat deze tijd als ijkmoment en niet als leermoment wordt gezien. Het is de verantwoordelijkheid van de accountant zelf om het aantal PE-uren te bepalen dat hij toekent aan de activiteit.
Aangezien het CIA-examen wordt georganiseerd door een buitenlandse entiteit (Pearson Vue), kan de intern accountant met een behaald CIA-examen na de registratie van de opleiding in zijn PE-registratie ontheffing aanvragen van het behalen van gecertificeerde PE-uren in het desbetreffende kalenderjaar op basis van artikel 2 , vierde lid NVPE en artikel 4, eerste lid onder b van de Beleidsregel PE (Ontheffing op basis van een in het buitenland gevolgde activiteit)."
As part of the exam bundle, candidates receive the customized CIA Challenge Exam study materials that cover only the content outlined in the exam syllabus. The custom study material will be delivered in an electronic downloadable format within seven (7) business days AFTER approval of the program application and confirmation of program payment.
Candidates will receive an email providing the user name and password required to obtain the study materials. The email will be sent to the primary email address provided by candidates in their CCMS profile. Review materials will only be available for download in English until 15 September 2018.
Candidates will also be provided with access to the IIA’s International professional Practices Framework and Standards.
Steps to Certification
The CIA Challenge Exam process is completed in six easy steps:
1. CREATE a Profile in CCMS
The IIA’s Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) is a user-friendly system to help candidates apply for, register, and maintain certification. Follow the instructions to create a profile or to retrieve CCMS login information or password. After candidates complete their profile, they will be able to APPLY into the CIA Challenge Exam program.
2. APPLY to the CIA Challenge Exam Program
After successfully completing the profile in CCMS, navigate to the “Complete a Form” section on the left side navigation panel. Locate and complete the NBA Challenge Application form. Select “member” is you are an IIA member, select “non-member” I f you are not an IIA member at the time of application. Complete the entire application form, and submit with payment. Upon completion, candidates receive an automated email confirming application submission.
3. SUBMIT Required Documentation
CIA Challenge Exam applicants must provide all required documents (government-issued photo ID and Character Reference form,) for review and approval. Failure to submit required documentation may result in application expiration and all fees will be forfeited. All documents must be submitted no later than 15 June 2018.
Prepare and scan the completed Character Reference Form and acceptable form of valid government- issued photo identification (current official driver’s license, passport or national identity card with indicated current status; expired documents will not be accepted). All documents must be scanned and uploaded through the Certification Document Upload Portal in a manner that ensures the photo is clearly legible. Submit the document type accordingly per the drop down menu. Access the link to the Document Upload Portal on this webpage.
Candidates will not be able to register for the exam until their application and required documents are approved.
4. REGISTER for the Exam
Candidates will receive application approval notification from The IIA, which includes complete instructions and a link to CCMS to complete the exam Registration. Candidates will receive an “Authorization to Test” notification via email advising them to contact Pearson VUE to schedule the exam. Candidates are asked to wait 48 hours from receipt of notification before contacting Pearson VUE.
5. SCHEDULE the Exam
The CIA Challenge Exam is available through computer-based testing. Candidates are able to sit for the exam at any IIA-authorized Pearson VUE test center in the Netherlands from 1 August through 30 September, 2018. Candidates can access the Pearson VUE website to locate the nearest test center and will follow the instructions to schedule the exam. All activities related to scheduling or rescheduling an exam are managed directly with Pearson VUE.
The candidate’s application and registration MUST be approved prior to scheduling the exam.
6. SIT for the Exam
Candidates will receive a “Confirmation to Test” email notification from Pearson VUE with complete instructions to sit for the exam. Candidates must follow the instructions and:
- Arrive at the test center early (at least 30 minutes)
- Bring the Pearson VUE exam appointment confirmation letter
- At check in, present acceptable government-issued photo identification (this must exactly match the candidate’s names as it was provided during the exam application process, be current, and be an original document)
The CIA Challenge Exam program requires candidates to apply to the program using the IIA’s Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS). Follow the six steps to successfully create your Profile in CCMS and apply and register for your exam.

The CIA Challenge Exam is offered as an exam bundle. The cost is USD$1,500 for non IIA members and USD$1,300 if the candidate is currently a member of The IIA. The exam bundle includes the following components:
- CIA Challenge Exam application fee (normally USD $115 member/ USD $230 non-member)
- CIA Challenge Exam registration fee (normally USD $740 member/ USD $950 non-member)
- A CIA Challenge Exam Study Guide in downloadable e-book format (normally USD $500 member/ USD $600 non-member)
- IIA Membership (nonmembers only, as candidates that are already a member of The IIA receive a discount of USD $200 on the exam bundle).
