The Koninklijke Nederlandse Beroepsorganisatie van Accountants (NBA)  and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) have partnered to offer RA's and AA's a unique opportunity to obtain the Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®) professional designation through a single exam. 

The IIA is committed to raising the profile of, and demand for, the internal audit profession. To accomplish this, The IIA works closely with organizations such as the NBA to help the advancement of the accountancy and internal audit professions. By offering the CIA Challenge Exam to NBA members as well, The IIA continues to demonstrate the uniqueness of internal auditing as a profession and strengthens its strategic partnerships.

The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) is the acknowledged leader worldwide of the internal audit profession, its global voice, recognized authority, chief advocate, and principal educator, with more than 190,000 members in 170 countries around the world.

Typically, members provide assurance and advisory services within the broad spectrum of governance, risk, and control, with responsibilities that may include internal and external auditing, risk management, internal control, information technology audit, education, and security.

Certified Internal Auditor® (CIA®): Strengthen Your Core

As The IIA’s premier designation for more than 40 years, the CIA sets the standard for excellence within the profession. The CIA Challenge Exam is a unique opportunity for professional auditors to earn this distinguished certification through an expedited process based on the candidates’ existing titles or NBA member affiliation.

Eligibility Requirements

The IIA will recognize current NBA Qualification holders (Register Accountant and Accountant-Administratieconsulent) as qualified NBA members as long as they are NBA Qualification holders at the Effective Date. Former NBA certification holders and students are not qualified as NBA members. IIA NL and NBA will be responsible for the attestation of qualified NBA members.

NBA members are deemed to have met the IIA’s education requirements and do not have to provide education documentation.

Professional Experience
NBA members are deemed to have met the IIA’s professional experience requirements and do not have to provide professional experience documentation.

Character Reference
Candidates must exhibit high moral and professional character and must submit a Character Reference Form signed by a CIA, CGAP, CCSA, CFSA, CRMA, or the candidate's supervisor.

Proof of Identification
Candidates must provide a government-issued photo identification in the form of a copy of the candidate’s official passport, government-issued photo ID, or national identity card. These must indicate current status; expired documents will not be accepted. All documents must be scanned and uploaded through the Document Upload Portal in a manner that ensures the photo is clearly legible.

Eligibility Period
The CIA Challenge Exam will be offered only one time to NBA members. Candidates must apply, register, schedule, and sit for the exam by 30 September 2018.

CIA Challenge Exam candidates agree to accept the conditions of the program. These include eligibility requirements, exam confidentiality, Code of Ethics, Continuing Professional Education (CPE) / Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and any other conditions enacted by the IIA’s Professional Certification Board (PCB). The IIA requires candidates to complete the CIA Challenge Exam certification process by 30 September 2018. If a candidate does not complete the certification process by the deadline, all fees will be forfeited.

During the application process, certification and qualification candidates are required to submit the application form and required documentation via the Certification Candidate Management System (CCMS) and the Document Upload Portal. All required forms are located in CCMS.
